Mantra and Meditation
I learned this valuable lesson after dealing with a --let's say-- difficult person. I was at a weak and vulnerable place in my life and their strong and toxic personality was getting the best of me. I didn't want to use my gifts anymore. And dare I say it? Running away from the situation sounded like a great option for me. My prayer time and bible study were at a minimum, if at all.
Then, one day, I thought I'd pray in case God still remembered me. As I waited, I whispered to Holy Spirit and Jesus since they're suppose to have my back and all according to the Word. Then, I heard quite clearly, "it's your perspective." Then, I said it out loud. "My perspective?"
It all clicked!! It was my perspective of the person and the situation which caused me to react a certain way. My reaction always escalated the negative feelings. So, I reclaimed my power and each day I make an intentional effort to pause and evaluate before I respond to potentially negative situations.
I share this revelation with you in hopes you'll glean some inspiration. If nothing else, realize you're always in control and responsible for your actions.
...whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
