When I Grow Up...

It’s amazing how our dreams change as we grow older. Of course, life experiences shape them. Our exposure to our immediate environment, social outlets, and personal values inform our dreams and fluctuate over time. For most of us, in our youth, our circle of influence was small—family, church, school, and community.

My parents were avid readers. Therefore, I realized early that books opened the door to a reality outside my circle. And yes I visited it quite often! Loved libraries and I still do! So, my dreams included being the first female football coach, driving a semi, and becoming an archaeologist, a doctor, or engineer. I know my family is LOL about the football coach dream! A touchdown and a field goal are the only two things I’m sure about in football. LOL *side note* I still wouldn’t mind going on an archaeological dig one day.

But my oh my, how the world has changed! Now, children’s circle of influence includes access to the WORLD.  Thanks to social media and the rampant popularity of reality TV, fortunately and sometimes unfortunately, today's youth realize many opportunities are available. Even happiness has a brand new meaning. It’s now a  main factor in career decisions--such a paradigm shift from how people in my Mother's and grandparents' generations made career choices.

Well I "googled" and "binged" and came across these articles about children’s career dreams. You may find them quite interesting:
