Introducing... Rochelle Campbell

Welcome Author & Blogger, Rochelle Campbell

Hap-pi-ness means…

1. the quality or state of being happy
2. good fortune; pleasure; contentment; joy (taken from Dictionary.com)

The synonyms for happiness are: pleasure, joy, exhilaration, bliss, contentedness, delight, enjoyment, satisfaction, bliss, contentment, felicity ~ imply an active or passive state of pleasure or pleasurable satisfaction.

In the several days I've been pondering this topic a lot of pleasurable things occurred.

*A new source of income emerged
*Several book reviews of my works were posted to major venues
*Quite a few more "Yeses" for my book party in two weeks
* A lovely surprise outing for Mother's Day
*  HOT YOGA!!!

All of these things brought varying degrees of happiness with them.  However, in looking deeper into the topic I realized that any of these things could have gone the other way.  What would have happened to my happiness then?  Would it have flown out the window?  Would I have cried?  The real key is to have happiness no matter what's happening around you.  Easier said than done, right?  Wrong.

How does one maintain a sense of happiness all the time?  Simple.  You decide to be happy all the time.  Intention is 9/10th of the battle.  If you awake each day intending to be happy then you tend to draw positive experiences to yourself.  And drawing positive things to yourself becomes easy once you identify what you love, or what you have a passion for -- then do that (or those!) things!

I figured this out just recently.  I am many decades into my life and seemed not to be able to find happiness anywhere I looked.  There was a big empty hole inside that was never filled by anything I did or tried.  So, after I was sick and tired of being sick and tired I just said, What the hay! and began doing the thing that I loved the most -- writing.

I have 4 novel length manuscripts in various stages of completion and many many short stories.  So many stories that I lost several over the years!  Why wasn't I writing?  Who knows?  I didn't feel I deserved.  The job had me working too many hours.  The children needed me.  Mercury wasn't lined up with Mars…pick one!  When we want excuses we have no shortage of them to pick from.  They even sound nobelese!

However, that little voice.  That really small quiet voice which is your true self, your id, your ori, or whatever you want to call it speaks to you and whisphers the thing(s) you should be doing to make you HAPPY.  Yes, in all caps.

Now that I have published Leaping Out On Faith (http://www.amazon.com/Leaping-Out-On-Faith-ebook/dp/B007RGBQNA) and Opening Up (http://www.amazon.com/Opening-Up-ebook/dp/B007XNRD7A) I am tremendously happy!

For years, I had been giving away my power and my voice to those who 'would decide' if I could write, or not.  They would tell me when I arrived (whatever that used to mean to me!).  Now I see that I have to arrive in my own mind, in my own positive beliefs.  Once I took ownership back, I could experience all of the happiness I had on hold.

Take your happiness off hold and begin truly living the life you want by first envisioning it, mapping a path to it and then following that path no matter what happens!  You will meet resistance; this is jus to see if you really want whatever it is you're going after.  So push through it and watch the happiness grow day-by-day.  One day you'll be passing a large picture window that's squeaky clean and you'll see a grinning idiot staring back at you -- it's you!  That smile can't be wiped off by any simple (or not so simple) turn of fate because you are directing your own happiness.

Remember, practice makes perfect!  So, if every day at the beginning doesn't feel the way you think it should do more of the things on your map so you're not thinking about all that other stuff.  Get busy getting your dream (and your life) ON and the happiness will follow!

Introducing....Larissa Hinton

Welcome Larissa Hinton! She is a book blogger, writer and teacher.

What makes me happy?

A lot of different things make me happy. The bitterness of the cold, the sound of opening a new fresh pack of pens, the thrill of going to a library sale just name the few things that make me want to smile. However, the one thing that makes me just forever happy is writing. The sheer joy that enters my heart as I create the world, chat with characters and argue with setting choices is what makes me wake up in the morning with a grin. I just love it.

The only thing that competes even a little bit with writing is reading. I love delving into worlds that are foreign to me, learning about characters odd quirks and personality traits and riding on the edge of my seat waiting for the next suspenseful turn that the author hurls my way. Those are the things that make me happy and I could die a content woman as long there's a book in my hand.

Life Decisions

Recently, I've had to make some serious decisions.  Decisions regarding what direction to take next.  I was quite sure of what I wanted to do.  However, another factor came into play.  Although there were many things on the table, one option would bring happiness to someone that I love very much.

Ahhh love and happiness.... *music break* :-)

Now back to our regular scheduled show. :-D

So what to do??? And this dilemma reflects the essence of my blog.  The title- Yeah I Think I'm Happy- is both a statement and a question. Some days you're sure and some days you're not. Some days you think it's all about listening to your heart, but then you're touched by someone else's heart.

So my friends, does happiness require you to sacrifice at times for those you love? Ultimately, doesn't seeing the important people in your life happy also make you happy?

Introducing...Darlene Jones!

Trinka has asked me to write about happiness, that often elusive emotion that gets lost in the rush of daily life, family stresses, and work obligations. I’ve always be an optimistic person seeing the glass as half full so perhaps I’m not the best one to try to describe happiness, but I’ll give it a go anyway.

For me, happiness is writing. For the characters in my books, happiness is helping others. The old adage says to “write what you know.” Does that mean happiness for me is helping others? When I stop to think about it, I’d have to say yes.

For me, happiness is doing. For the characters in my books, happiness is doing. Like me, they are active participants in life and interacting with the people around them.

I believe happiness comes from within. It’s not something anyone else can give you. Wow, Trinka, you really got me thinking and philosophizing with your question. Thank you for that.

Here’s a little more about me and my series and an excerpt from my second novel which I’ve just published.

A long time ago, I lived in Mali. Every single day, I wished I could wave a magic wand to relieve the heart wrenching poverty. My experiences there led to the writing of this story. Some aspects of EMBATTLED reflect my desire to wave that wand and make the world a better place—if only wishes could come true. And of course, every novel needs its love story, so along with the sci-fi magic, I’ve added the requisite romance.

Initially, I intended to write “a” novel. The story and characters took over and the ending of EMBATTLED demanded another. EMPOWERED is that “other.” I've always believed we can't be the only beings existing in the vastness of the universe, There must be others “out there somewhere” and I'd like to believe they're not all that different from us. Those beliefs are reflected in my writing. My novels stay, for the most part, within the realities of our world, but I've found that I love the magic the sci-fi element of other beings could bring to a story.

EXCERPT from EMPOWERED

“Honey, can you talk to me? Please. Talk to me.”
The little girl stared straight ahead, eyes wide, unblinking. In all her years of teaching, Mrs. Craig had never encountered anything like this with a student—this … trance …?
“Sweetheart, come back. Come back.” She rubbed the child’s back; saw the flicker of an eyelid. Thank God. “Sweetheart?”
“Where are they?” the girl asked. She looked around the room and then at her teacher. “Where are they?”
“Who?”
“The babies.”
“What babies, sweetie?”
“The babies all in pieces.”
*
Jaz crawled out of bed. Three in the morning and she wouldn’t sleep now. She was seeing them again—the visions from her childhood. They’d been with her forever, tucked into a back corner of her mind, hovering over her protectively. Now why did she think of them as protective when they were mostly bloody and brutal and harsh and cruel? What happened in those visions was atrocious; she’d known that even as a child, so why hadn’t she been afraid then? Why wasn’t she afraid now? Why did she think of them as a safeguard, a shield? And a shield against what? Those babies in pieces … She shuddered, wrapped her arms around herself and paced.
God, she had to find him—the man she could share this with, the man who would help carry the burden, the man she’d been promised in those dreams.

Who was Jasmine in that other life? Why is she so sure she is invincible? Where will her beliefs lead?

Simple Pleasures

Good afternoon! Nothing really deep or profound to share today. As I was sipping on the perfect cup of coffee, I thought hmmm what other simple pleasures make me smile? :-)

Maybe raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens?

A few of my favorite things:

hearing children laugh

seeing my family

scented candles

a rainy day

finishing a good book

spending time with friends

Now it's your turn. Comment with your favorite things--your simple pleasures. :-) By they way, the song on the video is from one my all-time favorite movies.
